Liquid Silver
Liquid Silver is actually made by drawing small ribbons of silver through a drawplate that forms a thin, silver tube. These tubes are carefully cut into identical lengths. The holes are large in relation to the tube diameter, so they are easy to string. Some are as short as 1/8" while most of our items are made with tubes approximately 1/4 inch (usually on bracelets) and 3/8 inch (on necklaces) long, and are hand-strung together in various lengths. These tubes or beads are used in Native American-style jewelry for a very fluid look. They can be used in combination with other beads and stones. Most of our necklaces are made with these liquid silver tubes strung on what is called a "mini cable" (below) and sometimes threads. These tubes are manufactured, not handmade.
These Liquid Silver Necklaces and Bracelets are very durable, most are made on what is called a "mini cable", which is actually a 7 strand Nylon Coated Stainless Steel Bead Stringing Wire. And most of our items have substantial clasps on them. These "Liquid Silver" items are unique in that they offer Silver at a very affordable price. And they are truly beautiful, as they go well with all of the varied and beautiful gemstones and beads that the Artisans so artfully design, while handcrafting these items. While wearing these unusual pieces, you will undoubtedly draw attention and comments from others, and you can wear these beautiful items with pride.
Note about our Barrel Clasps: Most of our handcrafted necklaces use a Barrel Clasp that is Silver Plated. These clasps are very popular, as they are easy to use and are very durable.
We recommend, that when you are not wearing your Liquid Silver Necklace, that you store it properly, in an air-tight plastic bag, such as the one we ship it to you in. When storing these Liquid Silver Necklaces, please take the necklace and form a Figure "8" (so that it will not develop a kink), and place it into an airtight plastic bag. Keeping all your silver jewelry stored properly, away from moisture, will dramatically decrease the chances of your jewelry items tarnishing.
We also recommend that you avoid showering with your jewelry, using body lotions while wearing your jewelry, doing physical exercise while wearing your jewelry. Also, try to avoid never taking your jewelry off! Wear it while "out and about", but store it properly as much as practical.
Cleaning Liquid Silver: Do Not Use Water.
Sprinkle a soft white cloth with dry baking powder (do not use baking soda, which is too abrasive). While holding one end of the jewelry with one hand, firmly rub the liquid silver in the cloth spread in the other hand, pulling the strands through the cloth downward. Repeat until all tarnish is removed. When clean, shake the strands of liquid silver gently to remove the excess powder.
Also, a simple silver polishing cloth can be used to clean liquid silver, if the item is not tarnished too badly.
Sterling silver tarnishes. It's a given. In humid climates, like the Southeast United States, it tarnishes very quickly. In the US Southwest, where it is dry, it tarnishes slowly.
